Update

Since my last post where I was working on my 1st draft of the contextual studies essay and powerpoint presentation, all has gone well. Was given possitive feedback with regards to my essay and where I could develop my argument. As for the presentation I haven't had any feedback but i'm assuming no news is good news.

I am now currently work
ing on my Studio Practice 2 brief (this started at the start of December and will go on til June: exhibition)

PERSONAL LEARNING PLAN

Name: Kirsty Houston
Year of Study: 3
Module Title: Studio Practice 2
Module Code:
Statement of Intent: (describe the main ideas, concepts, topics and/or themes that you intend to explore in relation to your chosen brief)

“The value of all things centres around how beautiful it is”
In response to this theme, I intend to explore the concept of the value within life and how influence can be an integral part in the lifestyle you choose.

Methods, Materials and Processes: (describe what materials, methods and processes you intend to use)

Throughout the course of the project organisation will be an essential part to the successful progression and development of the theme and concept. This will be achieved through the use of a detailed action plan, highlighting key individual milestones: research, development and evaluation. My intension is to develop the concept through 2D and 3D work, working with methods and processes that have been experimented with previously.
My intension is to work with a variety of materials in order to broaden my development work successfully and coherently in response to the theme and concept. Working with materials experimented with previously; paper, glass, ink, paint. Practical experimentation will consist of drawing, printmaking, embossing and paper work, each one developed and explored in depth in relation to the project.
Proposed Research: (give examples of appropriate research, including examples of artists/designers and practical experimentation, that you intend to undertake)

Research:  Definition of value
Where does the beauty of life fundamentally lie

                                      2D/3D paper work

Expected Outcomes: (describe the main outcomes that you intend to produce, including key milestones)

The main aims I wish to achieve are to complete the key milestones that have been stated: research, development and evaluation. Research for the project will have to be in-depth and go into great detail with regards to the theme and concept. Within the development stage my aim is to produce a strong body of work which will illustrate my progression from the initial concept to the development of the concept and finally on to the final artwork(s). This will be achieved through extensive development work through a variety of materials, methods and processes which are relevant to the project but also to my own specialism. The evaluation process will consist of my statement for assessment where by I will analysis the methods and processes explored and their success within the project. The statement for assessment will look at the project in its entirety, key milestones that were met and also where there could be room for improvement.

Criteria for Assessment:
Coursework will be assessed against the stated Module Learning Outcomes. The following criteria will be considered in assessment:
·       Quality of individual ideas and concepts.
·       Skill in research & applied problem solving.
·       Consideration and awareness of contextual issues and subject knowledge.

At this stage I am currently under going research into this theme and also into the concept of the project. In response to the theme of values, I began looking into the values of life and ways in which this can be interpretated: what is value and how do we value things? Have been to look further into how we as a society value life and in turn have come across Wabi Sabi : A Japanese way of life.

My aim to progress on to how this can be illustrated and expressed through a collection of artworks.
