Integrated Project: Further Development

With 2 weeks til the deadline, it's time to start making decisions as to what the final piece is going to be. Through extensive research and experimentation within this project, I have developed a great understanding as to how to use the glass and the countless possibilities there are with regards to an outcome. I was previously working with the glass by working with compositions that were applied to a glass background ( this was merely to get a feel for the material and to get sense of inspiration for progression) however, I have moved away from this by developing my work in a way which successfully corresponds to the brief. What I have been working with over teh past week is glass rods and fragments of  glass which have been bonded in the kiln without a backing. This has proved to be very successful, providing me with a great deal of work to take forward. The outcome of using these materials and processes relation successfully to the concept and theme of the initial brief we were issued. I have also experimented with incorporating glass and print (smashed laminated glass) and intaglio ink. This process was carried out by smashing the glass ad applying the ink to the crack, progressing onto transfering the image onto paper. Silkscreen printmaking was also a process experimented with: it was primarily for our printmaking workshop, however I felt the image used related to a previous sketch I had done.

 What I am aiming to achieve through this pieces, more specifically the last 2 documented, is the fragility of a persons mind/personal space and also the degenerative nature of Alzheimers. Scale is an important aspect of the project and is something  that will have to be considered greatly whilst producing the final artwork.
