Self-Reflection, Self-Image

Applied Practice: Multiples
For this module we are required to produce a "structured body of creative art of design work".

In response to the brief, I was immediately drawn to the idea of using myself as the basis for the project. The majority of my work concerns itself with other people and issues within society that I am interested in, however, for some time I have been interested in focusing on myself rather than the lives of other people.
Below is my stated PLP (personal learning plan)

Statement of Intent:

In response to the theme of multiples, my approach is to look into the concept of Self-Reflection, Self Image, thus my intention for this brief is to focus in on myself rather than that of other people. My aim for thie project is to deal with the ways in which I see myself in terms of my over appearance, something that has, for many years, been somewhat of a negative aspect of my adolescence. The way in which I intend to convey my concept is by producing multiples drawings, illustrating different aspects of myself that I am particularly self-conscious about.

Methods, Materials and Processes:
Responding the theme and concept of the project but also to the module Applied Practice, where by integrating all methods, materials and processes learned to date, is necessary; I intend to work within all realms of, drawing, painting, printmaking and also photography. there are all areas by which I am deeply interested in an am eager to develop further throughout the duration of thie brief. I feel that these methods will be beneficial in the successful progress and development of the concept. By working and experimenting with such as vast range of media, I feel they will allow me to fully express myself with regards to the concept of "Self-reflection, Self-Image but also allow me to overcome the ideas about the way in which I perceive myself.

Proposed Research:
Initial research carried out will be focused on the work of artists who concern their work with producing multiples, however, progressing on from this and gaining the knowledge requried, I intend to research into the work of artists who focus of portraiture, whether it be through photography, painting etc.

Research of artists include:
Monika grzymala   allan McCollum   David Bachelor   David Bailey

Chuck Close   Joghn Coplan   Tracy Emin

Expected Outcomes:

The intended outcome for this brief is to create an artwork which works both aesthetically and conceptually. My intention for a final artwork is to produce a collection of 2D multiples which reflect aspects of myself that I feel self-conscious about. the artwork must clearly demonstrate an understanding of the initial brief but must also be relevant to the theme of multiples. there must also be evidence of in depth research and experimental/development work which shows a clear progression to the final piece(s)
