Applied Practice: Multiples PLP

Statement of Intent: (describe the main ideas, concepts, topics and/or themes that you intend to explore in relation to your chosen brief)
In response to the theme of multiples, my approach has been to look at the concept of repetition of movement. Within this I intend to look in further depth at the interpretation of movement and how our everyday actions can affects us mentally. My intention is focus more specifically on that of OCD: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
“Some common compulsions include counting specific things (such as footsteps) or in specific ways (for instance, by intervals of two) and doing other repetitive actions, often with atypical sensitivity to numbers or patterns. People might repeatedly wash their hands or clear their throats, make sure certain items are in a straight line, repeatedly check that their parked cars have been locked before leaving them, constantly organize in a certain way, turn lights on and off, keep doors closed at all times, touch objects a certain number of times before exiting a room, walk in a certain routine way like only stepping on a certain colour of tile, or have a routine for using stairs, such as always finishing a flight on the same foot.”
These are many different aspects of OCD, I wish to research more specifically into that of compulsions that sufferers of OCD are faced with in everyday life.

Methods, Materials and Processes: (describe what materials, methods and processes you intend to use)
My intention for this project with regards to materials and processes is to experiment with elements which can be interpreted within a repetitive nature. I wish to explore a number of different materials that will allow me to explore and express the many different elements of OCD.
Materials/processes incorporated could include knitting, printmaking, silicon/plaster cast, glass, video, photo documentation.
What I aim to achieve with these materials is a strong body of work which highlights the severity of the condition and how in some cases it can dominate a person’s everyday life. The use of materials must be relevant to the concept and needs to successfully convey the theme of the project aesthetically and conceptually.

Proposed Research: (give examples of appropriate research, including examples of artists/designers and practical experimentation, that you intend to undertake)
Research appropriate to the theme and concept is essential to the successful progression of the project. I therefore intend to look into the work of artists whose work focuses on the theme of multiples and the in which they convey their concepts through use of materials and processes.
Artists include:
Marcel Duchamp     Monika Grzymala    Alan McCollum   David Batchelor

Dryden Goodwin
I wish to look at the methods they use in conveying their ideas and concepts and how through their specialist areas manipulate their materials.
Out with artist research I will need to look in more depth at the effects of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, more specifically compulsions, in order to gain a greater understanding with regards to how I can approach the development stage. On going research into different materials, processes and media are essential in producing a strong body of work in response to the Applied Practice module.
Expected Outcomes: (describe the main outcomes that you intend to produce, including key milestones)
My intended outcome for this project is to create an artwork of a highly resolved and professional standard and that clearly demonstrates the progression from developmental/experiment work to final art piece.

The expected outcome for this project has not yet been resolved to a specific format but through extensive experimental and development work I feel this will stand me in good stead for producing a success aesthetic and conceptual art piece.
In order for the project to progress successfully, the illustration of a time plan indicating my intentions throughout the duration of brief is necessary.
